The Reviewer: Ohio
Ohio is a novel by Stephen Mackley that tells the interweaving stories of several wayward souls set in New Canaan, OH.
Stephen Markley weaves words into sentences into paragraphs that reminded me much of Cormac McCarthy in regard to the raw truth and elevated language that carries you through this tragic, dark tale. His ability to tell the events of that fateful night in Ohio while leaping into the past with seamless ease was a treat.
I grew up in Palmyra, IL, a town of barely 700 people. While Ohio is a state away, this book spoke volumes and more about the Midwest, painting things so close to reality that it was near unnerving.
I can’t recommend this book enough. It deserves to be on the top of you to-read pile.
